100 Beautiful Things by V&A Waterfront in Cape Town

Sunbird Rooibos Tea is one of the most creative things we’ve seen done with rooibos in years! It’s the first single origin range of rooibos teas, all made from organically grown rooibos plants from different parts of the Cederberg.

“We’re trying to elevate the status of rooibos,” says Sunbird founder Anton Louw, who adds that the complexity of single origin rooibos makes for a higher-quality tea than what we’ve become accustomed to.⁣

With a winemaking background and a Masters in Environmental Science, Louw has combined his passions to produce a brand that celebrates the biodiversity of the land in which the tea is grown and supports the environment by having as little impact as possible. All tea bags (when not in loose-leaf form) are completely plastic-free and compostable.

Loose-leaf rooibos is what Louw encourages, however.

“Loose tea has a much better flavour and uses less packaging. When you brew a cup of loose tea, it gives rooibos a whole new dimension.”⁣

100 Beautiful Things is presented by the V&A Waterfront in celebration of South Africa’s creativity, compassion, ingenuity and resilience. Every week we will be showcasing five amazingly beautiful creative things that make us proud. It is curated in partnership with Platform SA .
