Hibiscus, Rooibos & Ginger Ice Tea for Garden Day

Hibiscus, Rooibos & Ginger Ice Tea for Garden Day

Garden Day takes place this Sunday 20 October in South Africa. It encourages people to spend the day with friends, family and neighbours in their own gardens, or other gardens such as Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden here in Cape Town.

Garden Day is for anyone and everyone as it about bringing people together to celebrate plants, outdoors, drinks, foods and spring gardens - of course. The day is a reminder that loneliness and anxiety are major problems in our society, and gardens bring about many benefits to combat different types of stress.

Iced tea is a refreshing beverage for a garden party or a picnic. We love hibiscus ice tea for its ruby red color and slightly sour taste similar to cranberry.

Our Hibiscus and Ginger Ice Tea is very easy to make. If you are planning on taking ice tea with you to a friend's house, or a public place, you can just pop it in a flask with some ice to keep it cold.

Ingredients

  • 1 L water
  • 4 bags of Sunbird Superior Hibiscus & Rooibos Ice Tea
  • A handful of dried Hibiscus flowers or petals
  • 2cm piece of ginger finely grated
  • 3cm piece of ginger sliced
  • 2 tablespoons of honey (optional)

Instructions

  1. Boil water on a stove or kettle. Once boiled, add Sunbird Superior Hibiscus & Rooibos tea bags.

  2. Add grated ginger, hibiscus flowers and honey

  3. Let the concoction soak for 15-30 minutes until the tea has cooled down.

  4. Serve with ginger slices
